Alicia is a Dallas native and first-generation daughter of Mexican parents. Raised in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas, she learned to work hard and push herself as much as her parents did. Alicia graduated from the School for the Talented and Gifted in 2002 and went on to study History and Sociology at Southern Methodist University. She'd later return to SMU to receive her Master's degrees in Liberal Studies with a focus on Racial and Social Justice. An an educator, with 13 years of experience in the Dallas Independent School District, Alicia has seen firsthand the difficulties students and teachers experience in the public school system. Now a mother of two, Alicia advocates for students across DISD, but also her own children.
