Become a Primos Mentee

Why should students join Primos? 

Figuring out life after high school can be difficult! There are endless possibilities: college, vocational training, job placement. Exploring your options as a high school student is essential. Through our programs, Primos helps students explore their interests, learn about different career paths, go on college visits and so much more all with the help of a mentor.

A Mentor

Primos mentees are paired with a mentor that shares their interests. The mentor helps guide their mentee through academics, the college application process, career exploration, and their social/emotional well being.

College and Career Workshops

Our workshops cover a variety of topics such as How to Network, Resume Building, Interview Skills, Financial Literacy, Communicating Effectively and much more. We take the input of students when creating workshops.

Exposure Opportunities

Primos believes that students learn best when they get to experience things firsthand. Our students go on corporate office visits to learn about different careers. We host a large career fair and also take students on college visits. 

How to apply:


  • Fill out the application
  • Get a recommendation from a teacher
  • Attend a group Zoom interview
  • Attend student and parent orientation 

(No GPA requirements, open to high school students in Dallas, preference given to students who live in zip codes 75217 and 75227)

What are mentees required to do once in the program?

  • Communicate weekly with your mentor 
  • Meet your mentor face to face monthly
  • Update Primos with your grades and attendance (your school performance will not affect your place in the program)
  • Attend Primos workshops, events, and trips when you can​

​Frequently Asked Questions

Can current college or grad students be Primos?
Yes, college students can be mentors to high school freshmen. 
Are there going to be events for Primos?
We will also host in-person bonding events, workshops for mentee/parents, college trips, and other fun activities!
What happens after the year is completed?
​The hope is that you will form a strong bond and relationship with your Primo. We’d love for you to continue your relationship!
How are the parents involved?
Parents give permission for their children to participate in our program and must be consulted for all field trips. Primos are also a resource for families and we will be organizing info sessions for parents to attend (possible topics include: FAFSA and financial aid, career exploration)
How do we get paired up with our mentor? 
Mentors and mentees will fill out interest forms. Mentees will get videos of their top 3 matches and get to pick their first and second choice. You have a say in who your mentor will be!
